Sure You Can Ask Me a Personal Question (Imitation poem)

Sure You Can Ask Me a Personal Question
(This is an imitation poem of Diane Burn's poem of the same name.)
How do you do?
No, I’m not Christian.
No, not Jewish.
No, I’m not Muslim either. I’m an Atheist.

No, not a Satan worshiper.
No, not angry with God.
No, not a Nazi.
No, not a witch.
No, I don’t eat babies!
Yes, an Atheist.

Oh?
You heard we drink goat’s blood?
From your pastor, huh?
I just want to sin, huh?
We are devil spawn?
Let me guess. Church?

Oh, you heard our lives lack meaning?
I find meaning everywhere.

Oh, so you think we have no sense of wonder?
The universe inspires great awe.

Oh, so you think we have no morals?
We do good because it is right.

Yes, my life is fulfilling without god.
It’s real sweet of you to be concerned.
No, I don’t want you to save me.
No, I won’t change my mind in a foxhole.
No, I don’t think I am smarter than you.

Thank you.  You don’t seem evil either.
I don’t think anyone will ever know
all the answers.
No, I don’t like Bill Maher.

Yeah. Sure. Loves me.
Uh-huh. Yeah. Accept him. Uh-huh. Forgiveness.
Save me. Yeah. Sure. Uh-huh. Eternal hellfire.

No, I don’t want to outlaw religion.
Yes, I do want it completely out of government.
Some of us don’t believe.

This ain’t no heavenly access test.
This is all there is.

You, If I Could (found poem)

You, If I Could
you need to find me again
the past is my happy home
never questioning if I
could open myself to you
because I felt completely wanted
content being anything with you
our timing just never feels right
I see your love around me
you give me your soul’s sign
and I want you to come back
knowing you will love me forever

love makes you cry (found poem)

love makes you cry
Everything reminds me of you
nothing reminds you of me
there’s no point in writing this
you miss everyone else
can you miss me too?
I do miss you
and miss you, I know
love makes you cry
non-stop

If You Wanted Me (found poem)

If You Wanted Me

Half knowing past souls
when half way love feels right.
Never directly happy being myself
questioning again our life content.
You don’t want to know me
because you never wanted love.
Just need you to give me
back, love being your other side.
If you could find me your
forever, that feels completely right.

My Pale Blue Dot (Found poem)

The Pale Blue Dot
(Inspired by Carl Sagan)
That dot. That’s us.
Every being in history, here.
Cowards, destroyers,
corrupt inventor of morals.
Teachers, explorers,
every joy in our history.
Aggregate of our suffering
suspended in a sunbeam.

Earth is a small, cosmic arena
of endless cruelties.
Frequent, fervent hatred.
Momentary masters glory
in rivers of blood,
triumph of a fraction
of a dot.

Our obscurity is
a lonely, enveloping darkness.
Our privileged posturings
an obscure position
on a point of pale light.
No hint of help
to save us from ourselves.

Earth is the only harbor.
There is nowhere
near to migrate.
Earth, we make our stand.

Character building is
our responsibility.
Humbling human conceits
to preserve more kindly
the only home we’ve ever known.
